The Client & Their Context
Just Retail is a UK-based EPOS and retail management platform built on .NET, serving independent retailers who need the operational capability of a chain without a chain's IT department. The back office handles stock, pricing, suppliers and promotions across their stores.
The Problem
Independent retailers run on thin margins and have no tolerance for downtime at the till. The system had to keep working exactly as staff expected while gaining new capability, and it had to absorb supplier promotion data arriving in whatever format each supplier chose to send. Retail is also unforgiving on pricing accuracy: a wrong shelf-edge label is a customer dispute and a compliance problem.
The Constraint
Stores were trading on it. Every change went into a live back office that independent retailers were selling through that same day, and staff had to find the system behaving exactly as it had the day before — new capability could be added but existing muscle memory could not be broken.
What We Built
- New stock-take workflows for counting and reconciling inventory in-store.
- Supplier promotion downloads, normalising incoming promotional pricing data into the system.
- Shelf-edge label printing driven by current pricing and promotions.
- Ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the back-office software.
